Hike #5 Deer Springs Trail
We combined an overnight camping trip with a short hike. We met our friends Paige and Chris and their boys Tate and Camden up Hobble Creek at the Balsam campground. It was so nice to have a retreat from the heat and hang out with friends. We had a great time cooking dinner, making s'mores and hanging out. Marley and Hoggan slept in their own tent and did really well. I, on the other hand woke up in the middle of the night and thought something was outside. I had a hard time getting back to sleep. (They had to put down a bear in this very campground a few weeks ago and that kept going around in my mind all night.) The next morning Chris and Paige cooked us all a great breakfast, then it was off for a hike. The Deer Springs trail left near our campsite and was very narrow and overgrown with tree branches and weeds. We went a mile roundtrip and about 300 ft in elevation. It was a pretty area, but Tate and Beck were game over very quickly. We are slowly training Beck to do his own hikes. This one was a bite hard for him. Much fun on this overnighter and hike. Thanks Hulls for hanging out!
