Hike # 7 Red Reef Nature Trail

We thought we would close out summer with a trip to St. George last weekend. Our good friends Chris, Paige, and their boys all met us down there. We enjoyed 4 wonderful days of swimming, sun, Pirate Island Pizza, shopping, and lastly hike #7. We left the condo Saturday morning after 8am and drove 15 miles north to the Leeds, Utah exit and then followed the signs to the Red Cliffs Recreation area. At the campgrounds we parked and headed up the Red Reef Nature Trail. This trail follows a river that leads to an upper and lower falls. The water, of course, was non existent this time of year, but what a beautiful slot canyon. The red rocks look stunning next to the bright blue skies. There was a bit of water at this spot, but it was pretty stagnant. The boys said they would go in for a $100. I didn't take them up on that offer. I couldn't let them in my car if they did get in. Not far from the lower falls was a natural amphitheater. It had a large overhang that looked as though it was the beginnings of an arch. It was a good thing we went early. It sure gets hot down there, but while we were hiking it was only 87 degrees, very uncharacteristic for this time of year (it's usually well over 100). Also, there were two other hikes that looked pretty cool. They lead to an ancient Anasazi village. We will have to enjoy this area again sometime soon. As always, Good times.
