Hike #8 to Timpanogos Caves
Well, we finally made it to hike #8—Timpanogos cave. We started our hike at 3:20 and got back to our car at around 7ish. It was a 3 mile round trip hike and you rose 1,065 feet from the visitors center to the actual caves. Because it is such a steep hike, no strollers, wheelchairs, etc. are allowed. So, Beck had to hoof it. He did ride on Brads back and on his shoulders a couple of times, but for the most part he did it on his own. I had done this hike years ago with my friend Vanessa and knew it was a long and steep hike, but man wearing a kid in a backpack, whew! Luckily, Brads sister Patti and two of her girls, Kendra and Linly came with us. The girls switched off carrying Gibson in the backpack for a large chunk of the time. There are 3 caves you get to go through (Timpanogos, Middle, and Hanson caves) and they are just amazing. Beck really got into it. The temperature was about 45˚ and stays that temperature year round. Our tour guide Mike was very friendly and knowledgeable about both the science behind the formations and lots of interesting stories and histories of the caves. This was a beautiful hike to end the summer with.
